Image
Getty Images      Michael Moore is a filmmaker known for using his talents to create thought provoking films on the effects of late stage capitalism on the everyday working class/blue collar American. In his film "Capitalism: A love Story," Moore skillfully uses shock factor, storytelling, and persuasive techniques to expose the policies put in place by companies such as but not limited to Walmart, which profit off of the demise of their workers; he also provides a solution to the economic disparity between the top 1% and bottom 95%, which share an equal amount of wealth, by encouraging the everyday American to use the one thing that is equal, the power of their vote.      While many people can relate to the feeling of the organization they work for not car...

Blog Entry #5 Rhetorical analysis of Doug Ducey's article

Image
Governor Doug Ducey makes a valid argument in his article, "Ducey: Why Arizona needs more college grads." His ideas are clearly stated, backed up by statistics and have a call towards action to conclude his message. Personally, I agree with his message of how having more college educated Arizonans would benefit the state.      Governor Ducey starts off the article using an appeal to ethos, or character. He mentions his position as governor which lets us know he is a man in a position of power, implying he is someone that can be followed. He also mentions his role as a  father and husband   which sets up audience relatability, not many people can relate to being a leader of government but many can relate to being a parent. Ducey also uses Logos, an appeal to logic, stating the benefits of reaching a goal of 60 percent of the population having a college education, such as an estimate of 3.5 billion extra tax dollars going to the state of Arizo...

Entry #3 The art of lying by omission

" Wrongfully convicted Florida man shot, killed by Georgia deputy ," when having read this title, reported on by CBS Miami, I, like many others immediately thought of the recent incidents of police officers overstepping their power resulting in the deaths of innocent members of the community, most often black. What is notable about this video is despite it being about the shooting which occurred, over half the time was spent focusing on Leonard's, the suspects, innocence and time served under a false charge while at the same time giving minimal acknowledgement to the fact the situation became aggressive due to Leonard's actions, only briefly mentioning this.                                                                    When showing a  picture  of Leonard w...
